Time for Canada to Exit NATO - “It should be obvious that NATO is led by the U.S. military. With its current role involved with the powers of the American empire in unilateral pre-emptive actions that generally work against international law, yes, NATO is nothing but an extension of that empire, a tool of the corporate-military structure that is part and parcel of the American government.”
In the above article, Jim Miles presents a convincing argument as to why Canada should get out of Afghanistan and leave NATO. However, if his reasoning is not enough to convince Canadians to leave NATO then consider the following:
Noam Chomsky, in an August 27 essay entitled Cold War II, outlines a possible scenario in which NATO could, due to its aggressive stance towards Iran, get into a full confrontation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a mutual security organization founded in 2001, which “includes not only the two giants Russia and China, but also the energy-rich Central Asian states Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.”
If the United States attacks Iran, which it is threatening to do, there is a real possibility that some NATO forces could be used in the operation. If this occurs, it is very unlikely that the SCO will tolerate an interruption in the flow of the “40% of Middle East oil” which is reported to be heading to the East.
Do we as Canadians, and for that matter, do our American neighbours, actually believe that Russia and energy strapped China will stand idly by and allow their economies to be devastated by a military confrontation between the United States and Iran? Does anyone actually believe that the SCO will allow one of its observer countries to be attacked by a Western power?
It’s true that Canadians are unwittingly allowing our minority government (led by neoconservative Stephen Harper) to continue Canada’s oppression of Haitians and the destruction of Afghanistan, but allowing them to get involved in a battle with the SCO, over Iran, is suicidal.
A war with Iran will be a global catastrophe on it’s own, but it could also trigger a confrontation between NATO and SCO, leading to a World War.
Canada needs to get out of NATO immediately. The rhetoric coming out of the United States is similar to that before its invasion of Iraq. If recent history is any indication, the United States plans on starting a war with Iran. This is a war that Canada does not want to be involved in, or even get close to.
