A message to all Canadians: We need to get the fuck out of NATO, ASAP: US threatens Russia through NATO

Considering that the United States is now promising to start a war with Russia through NATO, I thought it would be important to re-circulate the following piece. Originally posted on 2007-09-20 as “NATO vs. SCO: a war Canada does not want to be involved in.”

Update 20 Aug 2008: Russia cancels all military cooperation with NATO - “The warning from Russia signals a further deterioration in relations between Russia and western nations. It comes a day after NATO members meeting at a summit in Brussels criticized Russia's military aggression in Georgian territory and voted to suspend cooperation with NATO’s Russian council.”

Time for Canada to Exit NATO - “It should be obvious that NATO is led by the U.S. military. With its current role involved with the powers of the American empire in unilateral pre-emptive actions that generally work against international law, yes, NATO is nothing but an extension of that empire, a tool of the corporate-military structure that is part and parcel of the American government.”

In the above article, Jim Miles presents a convincing argument as to why Canada should get out of Afghanistan and leave NATO. However, if his reasoning is not enough to convince Canadians to leave NATO then consider the following:

Noam Chomsky, in an August 27 essay entitled Cold War II, outlines a possible scenario in which NATO could, due to its aggressive stance towards Iran, get into a full confrontation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a mutual security organization founded in 2001, which “includes not only the two giants Russia and China, but also the energy-rich Central Asian states Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.”

If the United States attacks Iran, which it is threatening to do, there is a real possibility that some NATO forces could be used in the operation. If this occurs, it is very unlikely that the SCO will tolerate an interruption in the flow of the “40% of Middle East oil” which is reported to be heading to the East.

Do we as Canadians, and for that matter, do our American neighbours, actually believe that Russia and energy strapped China will stand idly by and allow their economies to be devastated by a military confrontation between the United States and Iran? Does anyone actually believe that the SCO will allow one of its member or observer countries to be attacked by a Western power?

It’s true that Canadians are unwittingly allowing our minority government (led by neoconservative Stephen Harper) to continue Canada’s oppression of Haitians and the destruction of Afghanistan, but allowing them to get involved in a battle with the SCO, for any reason , is suicidal.

A war with Iran will be a global catastrophe on it’s own, but it could also trigger a confrontation between NATO and SCO, leading to a World War.

Canada needs to get out of NATO immediately. The rhetoric coming out of the United States is similar to that before its invasion of Iraq. If recent history is any indication, the United States plans on starting another war. This is a war that Canada does not want to be involved in, or even get close to.

Thanks for the kind words Jim, much appreciated.

I like your site as well, and I couldn’t agree more on your conclusions on Canada’s role in Afghanistan. “Someone somewhere needs to go to the World Court and get a ruling on this matter...because...if I'm correct, we have a lot of war criminals in power right now and that just doesn’t seem right.”

I like your site very much and will look in often. You do comprehensive and in-depth work with excellent references...something more of us should pay attention to.
I share your admiration for Chomsky, whose insight is often breathtaking.

Thanks for being part of the sphere.
