One definition of a dictator is “a person exercising absolute power”, while a leader is defined as “one who is in charge or in command of others.” This does not mean that the two words are unrelated. A leader can be a dictator and a dictator can be a leader. The difference is in the implied method of rule.
To describe someone as a dictator is to imply that they are ruthless and biased; to describe someone as a leader implies that they understand the needs of those that they rule. A dictator does not consider all options by gauging the consequences of a decision, making the best choice possible based on the most recent reliable information. In essence, a dictator does not listen and does not understand the needs of others. A good leader however, analyzes the best available data and makes the best possible choice after listening to all sides in a debate. In general, a natural leader relates to a large audience, sympathizing with their needs.
This is where Obama comes in. Some quick research into the man reveals that he has very humble roots, allowing him to relate to a wide demographic. He was not fed with a golden spoon, nor does he hold allegiance to a specific race or religion. Most importantly however, he has proven that he can relate to people, irrelevant of their social status or financial situation. Thus, he is the best and only remaining candidate who will be able to grasp the needs of the majority of American citizens.
There remains however some discrepancies about him, albeit many fewer discrepancies then the other candidates. Some of these are:
- In the same breath that Obama says he will address the Muslim world he states that he will not talk to Hamas. Does he not realize that Hamas is one of the most important democratically elected governments in the Muslim world? Is he not aware that a Gaza Bombshell was dropped recently revealing that the current escalation in hostilities between Israel and Palestine was a direct result of the United States starting the “bloody civil war in Gaza”?
- The US economy is in complete free fall. The Federal Reserve is cutting interest rates in a panic, trying to delay the largest economic crisis since the great depression that will eventually hit the United States, if not this year then the next. This is a given, and most economists in the world are forecasting oblivion for both the US dollar and the US economy. How is Obama going to deal with this? And why is this not the most important topic in the election circus?
- If he is to be a true leader as described above, how does he plan on bringing about peace in the Middle East when he has openly stated his support for Israel while he has not only condemned Hamas, but in 2007 stated that “use of military force should not be taken off the table when dealing with Iran, which he called ‘a threat to all of us.’”? How will he reconcile these two sides and bring about peace if he is already showing favoritism? How is this any different than the Republican lunatic singing bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran?
- What are all these changes that Obama so eloquently refers to? Everything that is happening right now, from multiple wars with Muslim countries to the imminent wars in South and Central America, have been planned for many years in advance and executed with the precision of a Military Industrial Complex (2:30). What changes is Obama going to initiate, and how is he going to do it? Is he going to simply pack up and leave the Middle East, eliminate the Federal Reserve, talk to Chavez, Ahmadinejad, Assad, Morales, etc.
These are just some of the questions that need to be addressed, not just by Obama, but by all the candidates. This however does not negate the fact that Obama is still the best and only remaining person in the race for the White House. I am of the same mindset as Immortal Technique and wouldn’t mind to “see Obama get the nomination and win.”
That being said, the problems facing the United States of America will not go away once the “election madness” is over. Specifically, there are two major issues that haunt the US: The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which will be costing Americans upwards of $7 trillion, and the latest polls revealing that McCain is ahead of Obama and Clinton.

So the question remains, will Obama become a dictator like his predecessor in the White House? Will he use the dictatorial powers obtained for the presidency by the Bush administration during the last few years to wage war, spy on Americans, “circumvent the courts and set up his own drumhead tribunals”.
Will he also call Congress irrelevant, or will he become a true leader, restoring the Constitution, ending American imperial agendas around the globe, while bringing freedom to his people?
We will have to wait and see …
NOTE: Two major events have unfolded in the last few weeks that indicate that Obama may be for real. The first was the news that security was relaxed at an Obama speech, which makes me believe that he may not be allowed to live long enough to bring about any “changes”. The second is the recent move by the Conservative Government of Canada, lead by neoconservative Stephen Harper, to smear Obama with NAFTAgate, even though it appears that it was Clinton's campaign that made the remarks. If those in power in the United States and Canada are trying to eliminate Obama, either politically or physically, then the decision to support him becomes relatively easy.
